History Lesson 70 Review Of This Week

Spectacles : Before Spectacles were invented, the years you were able to work as a scholar were very short. Because of bad eyesight, scholars had to retire earlier than they would have wanted.

Mechanical Clock : Before it was invented, people could only tell time by the water clock and the sundial. But those clocks had problems, like the sundial wouldn’t work on a cloudy day.

Paper Mills : Before it was invented, paper was too expensive for everyone to get. When the paper mill became a thing, the price of paper fell because of how it was made. They used old rags that had been thrown out and used trip hammers to turn them into a pulp, put it through a press to squeeze the water out, and then it made paper out of trash.

Robert Grosseteste : He was a well studied young man when the bishop asked if Grosseteste would be bishop. So, Grosseteste went to Catholic school to study about God, and later went on to be appointed a bishop. He went on to become a good man preaching and teaching.
