2 William Gilbert : The ancient world knew of magnetism but not what caused it. William Gilbert’s interest in magnetism was stimulated by prior work. His experiments got rid of the theory of magnetism and established high standards of scientific discovery.
3 The Newspaper : Before the printing press, mass media favored large governments. The reformers used the press to persuade the masses of their position. Newspapers transmitted information faster than ever before.
4 The Telescope : The telescope was the result of a successive development of optical theories and inventions. And because of the interest in astronomy, their use spread quickly.
